PETER TRAVAILLE WORKS AT MEDICAID
My final research project before graduating focused on electronic techniques for detecting fraud. I looked into the methods already being used by credit card and telecommunication companies. My thesis was given a mark eight – out of ten – and last August I presented my findings in Detroit, where my paper was published in the American Conference on Information Systems.
After graduating, I was able to stay on in San Diego, where I now work as a business analyst. The data centre of Medicaid is located here in San Diego, so this is where all the data from health insurance providers is stored. In order to improve the analysis of information at Medicaid, a new work flow management system is being introduced. I am currently involved in this process, which means I listen to Medicaid's wishes and convert these into criteria the IT developers can work with. I am also developing a business intelligence report for Medicaid, so that the organization will have more insight into its own data. I find my job very challenging, both in terms of social skills and technical abilities – a combination I enjoy very much. And living in San Diego isn't too bad either: the weather is always beautiful and surfing is one of the most popular sports here.
