Example documents bachelor's application

Start your application for a bachelor's

When you sign up, you have to upload several documents during the application process.

Below you will find a complete list of example documents that are often required to complete your application. Our application systems will also specify which documents you need to upload. If a document is not required, you will not get a question about it. The documents you need to upload during the application process depend on your nationality, your country of prior education, your personal circumstances, and the bachelor’s programme you have chosen.

Still need to graduate?

You are welcome to apply even if you have not yet graduated. Most prospective students begin their application while still in their final year of high school. However, please note that you must have obtained your high school diploma in the academic year preceding the start of your studies.

  • Instructions

During your application, information regarding the application fee will be provided within the application form. You will find a link to the website aanmelder.nl, a platform through which you can make the payment.

Payment can be made using a credit card, PayPal, iDEAL, or bank transfer. Once the payment has been completed, you will receive an invoice. Please upload this invoice as part of your application.

    Reason why

The University of Twente has introduced an application fee for bachelor's programmes.

    Example

The image on the left shows an example of a correct final invoice, which can be recognised by the text: "The invoice has already been paid via (…)".

The image on the right shows an example of an incorrect provisional invoice. This can be identified by the bold text: "Your payment will only be processed if the invoice number is in the description. Do not combine multiple invoices in one payment" as well as the bottom-right column displaying the payment deadline and the text: "To be paid before: (…)".

Do not make any changes to the invoice yourself under any circumstances. Any modifications will be regarded by the University of Twente as fraudulent, and this will result in your application being rejected. Please wait for the final invoice before proceeding.

  • Instructions

As part of your application, you are required to upload your diploma certificate(s) and academic records. In some countries, the diploma certificate and final transcript of records are combined into one document. If this applies to you, please upload that combined document.

Check the country list to see which documents are required for your specific country, as documents conditions and specific requirements differ from one country to another.

Only if your country is not listed, please upload the following:

    • If you have graduated: a copy of your diploma certificate and your official final transcript of records.
    • If you have not yet graduated: your most recent transcript of records, showing the subjects you will be examined in during your final year.

    Other conditions:

    • Documents must be uploaded in the original national language along with an official sworn translation in English or Dutch. If the original document is in English, Dutch, or German, no translation is required.
    • Please ensure your transcript of records includes your full name, date of birth (preferable), the official name of your diploma, and the institution’s name and logo.
    • If your transcript consists of multiple documents, please combine these into one file in chronological order, and minimise the number of files you upload by merging documents where possible.

    Reason why

Your upload(s) will be used to verify whether you have obtained your secondary school diploma and to assess the grades you achieved, the content of your programme, and the official duration of your studies. It will also help determine the level of your education, as educational systems vary between countries.

  • Instructions

If you hold an additional educational qualification, such as an (international) foundation year, the first year of university, or a completed higher education degree, please upload the relevant documents.

Each of these examples has its own document conditions and specific requirements. Please refer to the country list to check which documents are required for your situation.

Please note that specific examples cannot be provided, as each institution uses its own document formats and structures, which can vary considerably.

    Reason why

Your eligibility for admission will be determined through a comprehensive assessment of both your secondary school qualifications and any higher education degrees you have obtained. Uploaded documents will serve to verify these qualifications, providing detailed insight into the level, content, grades, and official duration of your prior studies from recognised institutions.

    Reason why

Every international student applying for a Dutch Bachelor’s programme needs to provide the University of Twente with proof of sufficient mastery of the Dutch language. Please check our website for the specific language requirements and options on how to meet these.

The following Bachelor’s programmes have Dutch language requirements:

    • Bachelor’s programme in Applied Physics
    • Bachelor’s programme in Biomedical Engineering
    • Bachelor’s programme in Health Science
    • Bachelor’s programme in Psychology (Dutch Track)
    • Bachelor’s programme in Technical Medicine
  • Instructions

Please ensure you upload a clear copy of the official test certificate.

Not the required grade, subject or level?

If you do not have the required grade, subject, or subject level, you might be eligible to do an additional test(s) if your overall level is equivalent to the Dutch VWO-Level. The University of Twente only accepts certificates from CCVX, James Boswell-Bèta (both online and physical tests from James Boswell-Bèta are accepted, contact them about the online possibilities), or the Dutch 'Staatsexamen'. The OMPT and Korteweg-de Vries tests are not accepted by the University of Twente.

The test must be passed with a positive result and should be taken before the application deadline (check the deviating deadlines for the bachelor's programme in Technical Medicine). Please submit your application to the University of Twente before you make a reservation for one of the tests (to prevent possibly unnecessary costs). The University of Twente assesses on individual bases whether you are eligible for such a test and inform you via email after a submitted application. You can continue your application the first time by answering with ‘No, I still have to complete a *subject* test’ if you are unsure if you meet the additional admission requirements. You will get additional questions about uploading a reservation, which you can skip as they are not mandatory. After submitting your application, you will be informed via email.

The Netherlands has different Mathematics subjects. For the social sciences bachelor's programmes, VWO Mathematics A is required. For the technical bachelor's programmes, VWO Mathematics B is required. For the subjects Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology you have to take the VWO Level, there are no sublevels like Mathematics.

    Example James Boswell-Bèta

As of December 2024, James Boswell-Bèta will issue digital certificates only, which the University of Twente can verify online. Certified photocopies will no longer be required once you have received the digital version. However, if you hold an earlier, non-digital certificate, you must still provide a certified photocopy for enrolment.
