Start your application for a bachelor's

When you sign up, you have to upload several documents during the application process.

Below you will find a complete list of example documents that are often necessary to complete your application. Our application systems also indicate which documents you need to upload. If a document is not required, you will not get a question about it. Which documents you need to upload during the process depends upon:

Still need to graduate?

You can always apply even when you still have to graduate. Most of the prospective students are still in their last year of high school when they start their application. Please be aware that you need to be graduated in the school year prior to the start of the academic year.

List of example documents

The documents below are examples of the files that we require from students who wish to enter the admission process within the Osiris application. Without the necessary documents, the application will not be processed or rejected.

  • Passport

    Instructions: 
    Please upload a valid and clear copy of:

    • the personal pages of your international passport, or
    • back and front of your ID card (EEA students only).

    Note: If you have multiple nationalities and you want those registered, please also upload the valid identity documents of your other nationalities. The University of Twente will only register the nationalities of the uploaded valid identity documents.

    Reason why:
    Your upload will be used to verify your personal details. Furthermore, the information will be used to make sure your name and date of birth on your diploma(s) correspond with the personal pages of your passport/ID card. Therefore, if your personal details are not identical on both passport and educational documents please upload an official document with an explanation.

    Example:

  • Secondary School Diploma

    Instructions: 
    Please upload your official (provisional) secondary school diploma in the original language and officially translated in English or Dutch. 

    You can always apply, even when you still have to complete your secondary school education. Please make sure your certificate includes your full name, date of birth (preferable), the official name of your diploma and the institution’s name and logo.

    Please see the country list and select the country to see which documents we require.

    Reason why:
    Your upload will be used to verify if you have obtained your secondary school diploma. Furthermore, your diploma will be used to assess the level of your education, as each country has a different educational system.

  • Secondary School Transcript of Records

    Instructions: 
    Please upload your official final transcript of records if you have already passed your secondary school diploma. Alternatively, upload a most recent transcript of records from your final year for us to indicate in which subjects you are going to take your exams. Please upload the document in the original language and officially translated into English or Dutch. 

    Please make sure your transcript of records includes your full name, date of birth (preferable), the official name of your diploma and the institution’s name and logo. If your transcript consists of multiple documents, please combine these documents into one single PDF document in chronological order.

    Please see the country list and select the country to see which documents we require.

    Reason why:
    Your upload will be used to assess the grades that you have obtained during your study. Furthermore, the upload will be used to gain more insight into the courses of your programme and the length of your previous degree.

  • Additional Degree(s)

    Instructions:
    Within your application, you will be asked to provide information regarding your previous education. In this section, you are able to be indicated up to 4 academic degrees. In case you have more than 4 degrees obtained, you might upload this by the final question, which is ‘additional educational documents'.

    Please be aware that a course is not seen as an academic degree, since it is normally having a duration of less than a year. In addition to that, a high school diploma is not required. The academic degrees which you should count are:

    • Associate Degree
    • Higher National Diploma/Certificate
    • National Diploma/Certificate
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Master’s degree
    • Doctorate degree (PhD)
    • Post-graduate degree
    • Advanced professional degree

    You can always apply, even when you still have to complete your degree(s) yet. You will be asked to provide us with the estimated date of completion. This date should be before the start of the academic year.

    In case you already graduated, please upload either an official graduation statement or official (provisional) degree(s) certificate(s) in the original language and officially translated in English or Dutch. If the original document is in English, Dutch or German you do not have to upload a translation. Please note: graduation statement or provisional degree certificate is valid for one year, starting the date of completion of your study.

    Please make sure your certificate includes your full name, date of birth, the official name of your diploma and institution’s name and logo.

    Reason why:
    Your upload will be used to verify if you have obtained an additional degree at a recognized higher education institution. Furthermore, your diploma will be used to assess the level of your education, as each country has a different educational system.

    Example:

  • Transcript of Records of Your Additional Degree(s)

    Instructions: 
    Within the application process you will be asked to provide us with the following documents:

    • An official copy of the final transcript of records, or
    • If you still have to pass your degree(s), you can upload the most recent transcript of records.
    • In addition to that, if you have done an exchange period during your degree, please upload the official transcript of records from the other institutions as well.

    Please note: the transcript of records needs to be uploaded in the original language and the official translation in English or Dutch. You do not have to upload a translation if the original document is in English, Dutch or German.

    Please make sure your transcript of records includes your full name, date of birth (preferable), the official name of your diploma and the institution’s name and logo. If your transcript consists of multiple documents, please combine these documents into one document in chronological order.

    Reason why:
    Your upload will be used to assess the grades you have obtained during your additional study. Furthermore, the upload will be used to gain more insight into the courses of your programme and the length of your previous degree(s).

  • English Language Test: IELTS

    Instructions:

    Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the official test result, your ‘test report form number’ must be clearly readable. We do not accept a print screen from the online result. Please be aware that we will use this information to access your data using the IELTS database. All students need proof of sufficient mastery of the English language.

    Reason why:
    Every international student applying for a bachelor’s programme have to provide the University of Twente with proof of sufficient mastery of the English language. You can find the specific language requirements and options for how to meet this requirement here.

    Example:

  • English Language Test: TOEFL

    Instructions:
    Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the ‘TOEFL iBT Test Taker Score Report’ certificate. We do not accept a print screen from the online result.

    In addition to that, please order the official score report at ETS using our institutional code 7025 (TOEFL) and choose for the department ‘undergraduate schools’. In that way, we can verify your result online.

    Please be aware that we will use this information to access your data using the ETS database.

    Reason why:
    Every international student applying for a bachelor’s programme has to provide the University of Twente with proof of sufficient mastery of the English language. You can find the specific language requirements and options for how to meet this requirement here.

  • English Language Test: Cambridge

    Instructions:
    Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the official Cambridge certificate (back and front). We do not accept a print screen from the online result or the download ‘statement of results’. Besides that, please provide us with two numbers, within your application:

    - Candidate's ID number, this should be 3 letters and 6 numbers e.g., EPA123456
    - Candidate's secret number, this should be 4 digits.

    Please be aware that we will use this information to access your data using the CIE Direct Site (database). As stated on the Cambridge website: “Candidates receive their ID number and secret number with their confirmation of entry for the exam. If candidates do not know these details, they should contact their centre”.

    In addition to that, please share your results via the Candidate Results Website from Cambridge. You need to log in with your own personal account on the website. After you have logged in, there is an option with “send my results”. You can send your results digitally to our university, so we can use the University's account to verify your results.

    Reason why:
    Every international student applying for a bachelor’s programme has to provide the University of Twente with proof of sufficient mastery of the English language. You can find the specific language requirements and options for how to meet this requirement here.

    Example:

  • Dutch Language Test

    Instructions:
    Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the official test result. If you have Dutch as an exam subject at your secondary school, you do not have to upload anything. Otherwise, please make sure that you upload a clear copy of the official test result.

    Reason why:
    Every international student applying for a Dutch Bachelor’s programme needs to provide the University of Twente with proof of sufficient mastery of the Dutch language. Please check our website for the specific language requirements and options on how to meet these.

    The following Bachelor’s programmes have Dutch language requirements:

    • Bachelor’s programme Biomedical Engineering
    • Bachelor’s programme Health Science
    • Bachelor’s programme Technical Medicine
    • Bachelor’s programme Applied Physics
  • Additional Requirements: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology

    Instructions:
    Please make sure to upload a clear copy of the official test result.

    Reason why:
    Depending on the bachelor’s programme there are additional requirements besides the language requirement. They can vary from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology. If the question appears in your application questionnaire, the bachelor’s programme has specific requirements.

    Overall, we require Dutch VWO Level Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology. The Dutch VWO Level Mathematics has subcategories in Mathematics A, B or C.

    There are multiple options to meet this requirement.

    • If you believe your exam subject Mathematics is sufficient, you can choose for: "Yes, I have/had mathematics as an exam subject and/or up until the final year during my secondary school education."
    • If you believe you did one of the accepted Mathematics tests in the Netherlands, you can click the choose for: "Yes, I have completed a mathematics test from CCVX, James Boswell-Bèta, Korteweg-de Vries or the Dutch Staatsexamen."

  • Motivation Letter

    Instructions:
    Please upload your motivation letter in English. Your motivation may contain several subjects, such as a clear motivation of goals and a motivation for taking the bachelor’s programme of choice.

    The motivation letter is required for the following bachelor's programmes:

    The other bachelor's programme does not require an uploaded motivation letter, you are free to do so if you want, you can upload the document by ‘other documents’ within your application.

    Reason why:
    Your upload will be used to assess your motivation and specific goals for matching activities and entering the University of Twente.

  • CV

    Instructions:

    Please upload your CV in English, you can use the format from Europass if you find this helpful. It is not mandatory to use the Europass format, you are free to make and create your own CV.

    • If you are applying for the bachelor's programme in Creative Technology, please see their website with the instructions. 
    • If you are applying for the ATLAS bachelor's programme, please see their website with the instructions.

    Reason why:
    Your CV will be used to gain more insight into your education, your professional career and your extracurricular activities.

  • Portfolio

    Instructions:
    Please upload your portfolio, only for the bachelor’s programme in Creative Technology. Please check the Creative Technology website for more information.

    Reason why:
    The portfolio is a mandatory requirement for admission to the bachelor’s programme in Creative Technology due to matching activities.

  • Financial Plan

    Instructions:
    Within your application, you might get a question to download the financial statement, fill in and upload the document. Please keep in mind that you are required to use Euros (€) to indicate your expenses and income. 

    Visit our tuition fees website for information on how much the institutional and statutory tuition fees are and which fee applies to you or the programme of your choice. Please note that each (academic) year the tuition fees will be adjusted due to the annual indexation.

    In addition to a budget for tuition fees, you will also need a budget for housing, day-to-day expenses and costs may also incur for insurance and a visa application. An overview of additional costs can be found here.
