Remote patient monitoring: towards an optimal design
Inspired by science

In a time where ever-increasing healthcare costs are under scrutiny, hospitals are slowly developing into intervention-based centers while patient care is moving towards the primary healthcare sector. Remote patient care technologies can provide useful solutions to support patients in this transformation of healthcare, and will play an important role to maintain or improve quality and efficiency in future care.

With the growing market of telecommunication and mobile medical technologies, tools to share data and acquire clinical information in a remote environment become more accessible to healthcare professionals. These technologies provide the opportunity to monitor, diagnose, support, or coach patients remotely.

The design of remote monitoring applications often involves many stakeholders and a combination of different technologies. This interactive day will focus on the process towards defining optimal patient monitoring strategies, specifically within secondary healthcare. Participants will be challenged to design solutions for actual clinical cases where medical professionals see opportunities to diagnose or follow-up patients at distant. Aspects that will be discussed and worked on include identification of the clinical requirements and user’s needs, design of the telemonitoring set-up, and the embedment into clinical workflow. The day will be guided by various experts within the field of telemonitoring and an advisory panel.

The program is part of the High Tech Knowledge Transfer initiative of the University of Twente and Novel-T funded by EFRO, in close collaboration with the Centre for Monitoring and Coaching and the Experimental Centre for Technical Medicine.
