UT researchers receive two Dutch Cyber Security research awards

On 22 January 2025, the Dutch Cyber Security Best Research Paper Awards were presented in Amersfoort. The awards are organised by the Academic Cyber Security Society (ACCSS), in cooperation with the organising committee of the Special Interest Group Cyber Security (SIG CS). This year, University of Twente researchers were recognised with two awards in the multidisciplinary track.

The first prize (ex aequo) was awarded to the paper Deception in double extortion ransomware attacks: An analysis of profitability and credibility, published in Computers & Security. The paper was authored by Tom Meurs (Dutch Police), Edward Cartwright, Anna Cartwright, Marianne Junger and Abhishta Abhishta (University of Twente).

The runner-up award was given to the paper Operationalizing cybersecurity research ethics review: from principles and guidelines to practice. The authors are Dennis Reidsma, Jeroen van der Ham-de Vos and Andrea Continella (University of Twente).

Together, the awards point to the relevance of multidisciplinary approaches in cybersecurity research and show how University of Twente researchers contribute to ongoing academic work in this field
