The University of Twente has appointed prof.dr.ir. Peter Veltink as the new interim scientific director of the Digital Society Institute (DSI).
He will take over the role from prof.dr. Maarten van Steen, who will retire early next year. Peter will start on 1 February 2026.
With this appointment, the Executive Board has asked Peter to broaden DSI’s scope and strengthen its alignment with UT’s impact domain Safety & Security, an area where DSI is expected to play a leading role in the coming years. Peter is currently vice-dean of EEMCS, meaning the faculty will soon begin recruiting for a new vice-dean.
