Aim
Supporting DesignLab Research Fellows in their development of new ideas and initiatives which are linked to the focus areas of DesignLab (Responsible Design, Citizen Science, Transdisciplinary Working and Responsible Futuring) and create societal impact.

DesignLab Fellows from all UT-faculties.
What can be covered and what not?
The DesignLab Fund can support ideas and initiatives that could help to strengthen projects that are connected to the focus areas of DesignLab. Money will be granted to projects to translate ideas into activities, studies or proposals that work towards exploring, understanding or connecting science, technology, and societal challenges. The funding can be used to hire staff or student assistants, buy equipment, or organize events.
The total available budget for this call is €50.000. The maximum for any individual application is €5.000. Applications can be rewarded partially. If the number of proposals exceeds the budget available, the proposals will be assessed on a first-come, first-served basis. The start date of every new round of funding is January 1.
What is required
Two parts:
Motivation + Plan
- description of the plan
- description of motivation
- explanation of connection to DL’s goals/focus areas
- detailed description of proposed activities
- timetable/planning
Activity overview + Budget
- detailed overview of activities and necessary budget
Criteria for assessment
Assessed by DL’s management team members:
- expected impact on society
- direct connection to DL’s goals/focus areas
- feasibility of your proposal
- potential to develop into further projects
Application procedure
- each call for proposal opens September 1 and closes October 15 and concerns projects to be executed from January 1 the next calendar year (an exception will be made in 2021: then the call opens on September 13 and closes on October 15)
- proposals will be assessed during the meeting of MT end of October
- communication of assessment of proposals takes place before November 1
- proposals should be submitted to Michelle de Boer (m.deboer@utwente.nl)
- the outcomes of projects should be reported back within three months after the end of each project
- if not all funding is used in this round, a second round will be organised in March
