Design Honours Lectures: Design Histories - Design Thinking

On 19 March dr. Wouter Eggink will present a compelling overview of the history of design in its societal context leading up to the current development called Design Thinking.

Design Thinking is a hot topic. Increasingly it is acknowledged that the way of thinking and working of designers can be used, not only for traditional product design, but also as a creative strategy to address complex societal challenges. Design concepts developed in a design-research project will typically help all stakeholders to reflect on the situation that they find themselves in, and learn to see the situation in a new light. This ‘reframing’ of the problem can help to achieve the necessary, out-of-the-box breakthrough innovation. Design thinking puts the human user at the centre of its concerns while at the same time looking at problems holistically, incorporating multiple levels of complexity. A good design project taps into the personal experience of people, social structures, organizational processed, societal forces and technological developments. The lectures are accessible to a wide audience.
