Recently, phishing emails were sent from a limited number of UT accounts. This happened after several staff members responded to a phishing message. The affected accounts were secured immediately and measures were taken. The incident has now been resolved.
On Sunday 19 April 2026, you may have received emails with the subject lines:
- “Payable time approved for payment”
- “Academic Affairs Shared a Relevant note”
If you received one of these messages, you can safely delete it. If you did not click on anything or respond, no further action is needed.
If you did click on a link, entered your details or responded in another way, please change your password immediately and contact CERT UT via cert@utwente.nl so they can assist.
Recognising phishing
This incident once again shows how important it is to remain alert to suspicious emails, even when they appear to come from a familiar sender or organisation.
