SURF announced this week in a press release that a national pilot is being prepared using Nextcloud as an open-source alternative for collaboration and document management. The announcement has already been picked up by various media outlets, including UToday.
UT is involved in the preparatory phase
The University of Twente will participate in the next steps of this pilot. We consider it important to explore the possibilities that Nextcloud offers for research, teaching and support, and how this aligns with our own digital working environment.
Registration will be managed by UT
In SURF’s communication, staff are invited to express their interest. Within UT we are currently working out how we will organise participation and through which process staff may be able to register.
You therefore do not need to take any action yet. Once it is clear how many places are available and how registration will be arranged, we will inform you.
We will keep you informed
The national pilot is expected to start in January 2026. As soon as more information is available about UT’s participation and the registration process, we will share this via our usual internal channels.
