Do not worry! This is an approved phishing simulation run by the University of Twente.
Unfortunately, you have fallen victim to a fake phishing email. This means you received a suspicious email trying to steal your personal information. In this case, intended to increase your privacy and security awareness.
Phishing is a serious threat to the security of our data and systems. A single mistake of clicking on a phishing email is enough to put our entire organization at risk. That is why we all must be vigilant and do our best to recognize phishing attempts.
To help you recognize phishing emails, we give you the following five tips:
- Verify the sender's email address. Does the name make sense to you?
- Check before you click. Hover over the hyperlink and check if this links to a website you expect it to be.
- Be suspicious of requests for personal information, such as passwords and credit card information.
- If the email makes an urgent request for you to provide (personal) data, be extra suspicious.
- Look for errors in spelling and grammar in the email.
