SALAM is an interdisciplinary performance by theatre company Noord Nederlands Toneel, dance company Club Guy & Roni and orchestra Asko|Schönberg. Spoken in Dutch, English and Arabic with surtitles in both English and Dutch. So language is truly not a problem in this mix of theatre, dance and music. SALAM tells the story of Abraham – a wavering father who drives a wedge between his two sons. A story about love, jealousy, regret – and about the possible root of the tensions between the western and Arabic world.
How do we bridge the gap between people who talk about each other instead of with each other? That question was director Guy Weizman’s starting point for Salam. Those who are familiar with Weizman’s work know that Salam will not be a historical, Biblical drama, but rather a modern, humorous, and energetic performance for all of us.
