Chinese painting Adelaide Lam

Chinese painting is one of the oldest artistic traditions in the world. This art form is still practised in China until now. Adelaide Lam, born in Hong Kong (China) and living in Enschede, also practices this traditional way of expressing.

The brush strokes are placed on the rice paper without hesitation, quickly, accurately and smoothly. Because of this way of working, no stains appear on the paper, which is very absorbent. A technique that demands concentration and, as she says herself, can have a meditative effect. Besides the so-called "4 gentlemen" - being bamboo, plum blossom, orchid, and chrysanthemum - she likes to paint landscapes and animals, especially birds and horses.

She wants to share her passion for the technique of this art form by organising and giving training. For this reason, Vrijhof Culture organises together with Adelaide Lam the course Chinese Brush Painting in the Vrijhof building. This course starts on Tuesday 14 May.

Meet & Greet

On the first day of this exhibition, Thursday 2 May, artist Adelaide Lam will be present in the Spiegel between 2pm and 4 pm.
