Iris Zendman says about her own work: “Passing moments of beauty are captured through instant photography, images that I want to share. My other work consist of video performances and installations. My sense of wonder about absurdity of our hyper economic human existence is translated into visual work. It is my intention to enlarge the gray area between reality and illusion. I am fascinated by the relativity of value. Current themes in my work are time, gold and money.”
Iris Zendman graduated this year. At her final exhibition she showed her video performance Chubby Money. This short film will also be visible in the exhibition, in addition to other works.
Chubby Money is a video performance in which we see Iris stuffing a whole bunch of dollar bills in her mouth ... one by one, more and more, torture starts, tears appear. A discomforting image but presented so aesthetically that questions arise. Questions apart from the question of why she stuffs her mouth with this money.
