AKI takes over / "Hotel Bella Arte" Nils Leibeling & Jelle van Assem.

This is the third year that the AKI (Academy of Arts & Design) is present with an exhibition in the Vrijhof. Each time Vrijhof Culture gives young "artists-to-be" the possibility  to show what goes on in their mind and how they translate this into art. For a short period the AKI takes over!

The AKI is a small sized non-competitive art academy. The focus is on educating independent artists and designers working in and between multiple disciplines. Its scale and character contribute to friendships, mutual exchanges, and collaborations within a context that seems temporary, but lasts a lifetime. The study Fine Art at the AKI prepares students for a dynamic profession. Through individualized tutoring and creative practice, they become artists who are capable of undertaking various roles, positions, and responsibilities in art and society.

This year the AKI is represented by two fourth-year students of the department Fine Art/Sculpture: Nils Leibeling and Jelle van Assem

In the large exhibition room Nils Leibeling will show some three-dimensional pieces as a reflection on social issues. In the small exhibition room you’ll find his video loop: "People in motion".

Also in the large exhibition room, Jelle van Assem will show a selection of “impulsively photographed images - printed with attention”.

Opening in presence of Nils Leibeling and Jelle van Assem is on Thursday 19 April, 4.30 PM.
