At the end of this training:
- The tutor knows his/her role and is aware of the tasks involved.
- The tutor acquires skills to guide and stimulate the group process.
- The tutor can take into account the diversity in roles.
- The tutor can apply the appropriate interview techniques.
- The tutor is able to refer to the appropriate person in case of problems that fall outside tutor’s scope.
- The tutor can perform his/her role as assessor of project products.
- The tutor is able to prepare the first meeting.
This training is designed for teachers wish to prepare themselves for a tutor role in a UT bachelor programme (TOM). The training is tailor-made. On the basis of a so-called ‘menu card’ of options a programme will be put together which caters for the specific needs of the teachers involved. Wherever possible educational stakeholders such as a programme director, a module coordinator or a study advisor will be involved into the training programme.
Usually the faculty educational advisor, possibly complemented by a CELT colleague will act as trainers. The training consist of two sessions plus a follow-up session and will deal with topics such as different tutor roles, limitations to tutoring, group processes, interview techniques, review of project products.
In the training much attention is paid to the group discussion on roles/responsibilities of tutors, practising interview skills and practising with difficult situations (cases) that may occur during project work.
For the standard training programme: 12 hours, consisting of 3 meetings (4 hours, 4 hours and 2 hours) and 2 hours of self-study. The study load for this course is roughly equivalent to 0,5 ECTS.
