This course is intended for researchers who are publishing in English or are about to do so in the near future. For academic staff and 2nd, 3rd, 4th years PhD-candidates whose current level of English is approximately CEF C1-C2. Participants are expected to have completed the course Technical Writing and Editing.
For 1st year PhD-candidates there is an Academic Publishing bootcamp in November.
This course will provide the participants with a broad understanding of the scientific publication process from choosing a journal to getting the manuscript accepted for publication.
The following topics will be covered:
- Choosing a journal
- Manuscript guidelines
- Making an article template
- Writing a short article according to the template
- The review process
- How the journal handles manuscripts once submitted
This is an hands-on course where active participation of the participants is required. Each lesson includes a variety of practical exercises and homework assignments that are specifically geared to the field of study of the participants.
DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT
Attendance at each of the 4 sessions is essential. The duration of each session is 3 hours. Homework assignments are expected to take approximately 2 to 4 hours each week. The study load for this course is roughly equivalent to 1 ECTS.
Participants are required to be far enough into their research projects to have novel experimental data that will be included in a manuscript to be submitted for publication.
