RESEARCH SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Learning objectives

At the end of this bootcamp, you will:

  • Understand how to develop better quality, reusability, and reproducibility of your scientific scripts and code
  • Learn and practice digital competencies to apply the research software management workflow at UT
  • Learn how the UT research software policy and guidelines can benefit your research
  • Assess research software management to develop scripts and code as scientific outputs

Content

Would you like to get the background to start writing code for research, and stay up to date on the best research software management practices? This training is for you. This training consists of three components with the following order: 1) online self-study material (2 weeks), 2) two interactive sessions (two half-days), and 3) concluding with your research software demo uploaded to a repository.

  1. Online Self-Study Course
You will begin with online self-study material that provides instructions for completing the module. This online self-study training helps you draft an optional research software management plan (RSMP), which you can deliver one week before the interactive session.
  2. Interactive Sessions
After completing the online self-study course and the optional RSMP, you will join two mandatory half-day interactive sessions focusing on research software management practices tailored to your code management needs. Software stewards will introduce research software management levels -low, medium, and high and you can ask questions and have discussions with peers. Details of the session will be communicated through email.
  3. Research Software Management Plan
After the two interactive sessions, you can request feedback and a meeting to review your RSMP. Software stewards will guide you through the process. Upon successful completion of the training, you will receive your certificate.
