A successful and fair water transition requires contributions from all stakeholders, including companies. Unfortunately private sector involvement in water management is limited. The project, Exploring Water Credits for Corporate Engagement in Collective Water Management in East Brabant, will use a novel new water credit system to engage companies in the region in local water management.
Water credits are a way to measure the positive impact on water use and make this investable. Proceeds from the water credits support improvements to local water systems through much needed new sources of private sector funding. The project partners, University of Twente, Water Footprint Implementation, and Water Footprint Network will connect scientific knowledge with a market-oriented approach in five promising projects. The funding has been provided by NWO Knowledge in Action grant as part of a call by the Dutch Climate Research Initiative (KIN).
