Did you know that the average meal has travelled around 30,000 kilometres before it ends on your plate? In his project Food for Thought photographer and filmmaker Kadir van Lohuizen reveals a complex and worldwide food system in which the Netherlands plays a key role. The large scale and efficiency of our high-tech food industry evoke as much respect as they raise questions: what is the effect on the planet? How future-proof is it? Indeed food for thought!

Footage and photos from Van Lohuizens project Food for thought will be shown in the Small Exhibition Space in the Vrijhof between 12 November and 12 January.

About Kadir van Lohuizen
Kadir van Lohuizen is a photographer, documentary filmmaker and co-founder of the international photography collective NOOR. For decades, he has been using his camera to explore pressing global issues, such as climate change, migration, food security and humanity’s impact on our planet. His award-winning work portrays complex themes in a poignant and accessible way and is exhibited and published worldwide.
