Citizen Science is growing rapidly. The National Platform Open Science just released the report from the workgroup Citizen Science on the need for and opportunities of citizen science. What is its added value to the different fields of research, and the implications for education? What are the next steps to take? We share local, national and international level good practices.

Citizen Science reshapes the relations between scientists and citizens, and is a fundamentally humanising endeavour that unlocks implicit and explicit inquisitive capacities in humans. How does this new relation between citizens and scientists take shape in different domains? What is its impact? Does Citizen Science demand an update of our ethical research standards? On what grounds, and on the basis of which values?
Citizen Science: an international perspective and its potential impact
Prof. Muki Haklay, Geographic Information Science in the Department of Geography, University College London. Muki is co-director of the UCL Extreme Citizen Science group, which is dedicated to allowing any community, regardless of their literacy, to use scientific methods and tools to collect, analyse, interpret and use information about their area and activities.
