PhD candidates and UT staff with an East Asian language background (Mandarin (China), Cantonese (China, Hong Kong, Macau), Indonesian, Korean, Thai, Mongolian, Vietnamese or Japanese) who want to improve their English fluency and pronunciation, including intonation.
Participants have managed to brush up their English speaking skills to become the speakers that colleagues and students enjoy listening to. Sounding more intelligible will mean communicating more effectively in the workplace and with more autonomy.
The course will allow you to fine-tune your mastery of
- sounds (vowels, consonants),
- word stress (accented and reduced syllables)
- sentence production (sentence stress, reduction, linking and blending sounds, intonation)
- overall fluency when speaking EnglishSimultaneously, by working on your speaking skills you will also improve your English listening skills. DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENTThe training approach will be very much hands-on using various tools and techniques to really improve your intelligibility, following the PELI principle:

The course consists of 1 session of 3 hours, effectively boosting your English speaking skills in an intensive setting. In preparation of this session, participants will be asked to do some preparatory activities, including self-assessment and watching some videos, to reactivate their learning process.
