FOR WHOM?

PhD candidates and UT staff with Dutch as their native language who wish to reduce their Dutch accent.

RESULT

Participants know which sounds (phonemes) are particularly difficult for speakers of Dutch. They will have reduced their Dutch accent and gained more credibility as a speaker of English

CONTENT

This course focuses only on those aspects of English pronunciation that are difficult for speakers of Dutch. Participants will be made aware of their personal pitfalls; each candidate will receive an individual set of exercises to learn to replace incorrect sounds with correct English sounds. Attention will also be placed to word stress.

DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT

Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course consists of 6 sessions. Each session lasts one and a half hours. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours each week. The study load for this course is roughly equivalent to 1 ECTS.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

The course is open to native speakers of Dutch. Please contact the TCP Language Centre if your native tongue is another European language.
