OUR MISSION

The UT Language Centre identifies and supports language learning needs specific to the University of Twente and its wider community, in a flexible and professional manner.

The UT Language Centre is a member of the Vereniging van Universitaire Talencentra in het Nederlandse Taalgebied (NUT), part of the Confédération Européenne des Centres de Langues de l'Enseignement Supérieur (CercleS), and partner of the Universität Münster. LANGUAGE POLICY

The University of Twente has established a general language policy. The UT Language Centre takes the language requirements for  various groups within the University as the basis for its courses and assessment activities.

These language requirements are:

lecturers:          CEF C2       (IELTS 7.5)
PhD students:  CEF B2/C1  (IELTS 6.5)
students:          CEF B2/C1  (IELTS 6.0/7.0, depending on the requirements set by the department)
support staff:    variable, depending on their position

ASSESSMENT

Any member of the University of Twente can contact the UT Language Centre for an assessment of their English language proficiency. Such an assessment usually involves a self-test in the form of a computer language test, combined with an interview.

VALIDATION

For study or work abroad, proof of language competence is often required. The UT Language Centre validates language certificates and provides advice on possible ways to improve one’s language skills for specific needs further.
