Housing for non-EEA students

Are you currently living outside the EEA region and do you need an entry visa and/or residence permit to study in the Netherlands?

Then UT will ensure a guaranteed housing offer - for the first year - for students who are joining the University of Twente (UT) for the very first time.

How to qualify for a guaranteed housing offer?

Are you a non-EEA student and do you require a visa? If you meet the conditions below, UT offers you a room for one year.

You will rent this room for one year through UT. Please bear in mind that UT does not offer housing services for families. For example, if you are looking for a house or flat instead of a room, we recommend you look at our other housing possibilities

Housing portal Roomspot

Since, as a non-EEA student, you need an entry visa and/or residence permit, UT wants to offer you extra help in your search for a room. That is why you will see the tab 'special offer UT' in the online portal Roomspot, which is exclusively available for non-EEA students. As soon as we have received and registered the payment of your entry visa, tuition fee, and bank statement, you will be informed by e-mail on which date the special offer access will become available to you.

In case you want to terminate your contract, please contact your landlord or check the termination policy. The starting date of a contract is generally on the 1st or 16th day of the month and the ending date is always on the 15th or last day of the month.

    FAQ

    • What is the maximum duration of my rental contract?

The University of Twente mediates for accommodation with a maximum rental period of one year (12 months). After this year, you are expected to move out of your rented accommodation. It is not possible to renew or extend your rental contract after this year. We therefore urge you to start searching for new accommodation before the maximum rental period is up.

    • Can I terminate the contract before the end of the rental period?

The terms and conditions regarding ending your contract depending on your rental contract. Please contact your rental agency for more information regarding their termination policy. You can terminate your contract on the 15th or last day of the month, with one month's notice. For example: if you wish to terminate your contract by the 15th of July, you should notify your rental agency on the 15th of June. Please fill in the termination form for either ITC or De Veste

    • Are pets allowed?

ITC and De Veste (on campus) don't allow you to keep any pets in the furnished accommodation. For other accommodations, please check this question with the housing provider or landlord.

    • What rights do I have as a tenant?

Both tenants and landlords have rights and obligations. We advise you to check the rules and regulations on the tips & tricks page of the Student Union to know what is expected of you and what you can expect of your landlord. If you are still unsure about your rights or obligations, you can get more information through free legal advise or by calling the Landelijke Studentenvakbond (the advocacy organization for all students in the Netherlands) through their "Housing Hotline".
