HomeCampusCampus facilities

General campus facilities

ON our green ALL-IN CAMPUS, YOU WILL FIND MUCH MORE THAN JUST EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FACILITIES.

You will find everything you need to get the most out of your student life. From libraries and state-of-the-art labs for top research to theatre and sports fields.

Cafes, restaurants and canteens

These places primarily consist of restaurants and canteens and are freely accessible to employees, students, or visitors. All buildings are open on working days and closed on weekends. The sports canteen, an exception to the rule, is open seven days a week. Opening times are adjusted during holiday periods.

  • The student bar in the heart of our campus. Throughout the year it is the location for a large number of student parties and special events.

The Vestingbar is fully staffed and controlled by students. Open until late, very late!

  • The Mensa, our student restaurant, serves three different hot meals every night. There is always a vegetarian dish.

You will find the Mensa in the 'de Waaier' building.

  • The Theatercafé, located in the Vrijhof, is a relaxed spot to lunch near the student boulevard. In the evening, the canteen is transformed into a bistro-like restaurant.

From 5 p.m. you can go there for the daily menu or choose a meal from the menu.

  • Catering on-site and in the canteens/restaurants is provided and controlled by Appèl.

For sandwiches, a cup of soup or a hot snack you can visit the various canteens of Appèl in the Spiegel, Ravelijn, Horst, Technohal and the Waaier. You will find the largest selection in the Waaier. The offer in the Technohal is exclusively vegetarian.

  • For a hot cup of whatever you like with an accompanying snack, you can go to one of the Appèl coffee corners in the Ravelijn, Spiegel or Waaier.

  • The restaurant in the Gallery's visitor center. You can come here for a good lunch in the dynamic atmosphere of start-ups and entrepreneurs.

  • The U Parkhotel has its own à la carte restaurant.  You can go there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu changes every season.

More information can be found on the U Parkhotel website.

  • In the Sports canteen, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a soda or a beer during weekdays and during the weekend. You will find the sports center near the Utrack and Boulevard.

Healthcare

The campus offers a wide range of healthcare institutions. Most of them are not directly linked to the university but are located on campus. They are very experienced in complaints common for students, international knowledge workers, and highly skilled professionals.

  • The company doctor for employees and the occupational health and safety service for employees are provided by an external service. For details see the Absence and reintegration page.

  • The most obvious reason for a dental visit is a tooth ache. It's commonly said that you should see a dentist twice a year. Inside building De Sleutel (no 58 on the campus map), you will find dental practice Huizinga. In the same building, you can find a GP medical centre.

Basic Dutch health insurance does not cover dental costs.

Visit the website of the Campus Dentist for more information.

  • You can consult a dietician if you are experiencing issues regarding eating or drinking or if you have questions about nutrition or changes to your weight. Dietician Marike ten Oever is available by appointment. She holds her consulting hours inside the Sports Centre or the GP medical centre.

Check out the website of Dietist Ten Oever for more information.

  • If you need medical assistance during the evening, night-time or on the weekend, you should contact the Spoedpost (Emergency Center):

    • Enschede +31 88 555 1188
    • Hengelo   +31 88 555 1155

Remember to have your health insurance card and your Citizen Service Number (BSN) ready.

You must always call the Spoedpost before visiting. Perhaps telephone advice is sufficient, or a doctor or ambulance will be sent to you immediately. Otherwise, you can schedule an appointment. Check your insurance cover as there may be additional costs.

Check for more information the Spoedpost website (in English).

  • You can find the GP medical centre on campus in building De Sleutel (no 58). More information can be found on the GP website.
