Crowd funding for student performance of Jesus Christ Superstar

Students from the University of Twente, together with students from the Conservatory and Artez AKI in Enschede are currently busily rehearsing a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar.

This is the first time that all UT cultural student associations have worked together on such a large scale production. The UT’s collaboration with the Conservatory and Artez AKI is also something new. Jesus Christ Superstar will be performed in the Rabotheater in Hengelo on 24 and 25 April 2017. A crowd funding initiative was set up to make it happen.

All the cultural student associations have come together for the Jesus Christ Superstar project, which is definitely a first. Usually these associations hold their own individual shows within their own sphere of interest (dance, music or theatre). By pooling their various disciplines on this occasion, the associations can use the event to become familiar with each other, whilst supporting collaborative learning for the students. Band members play with a conductor; violinists benefit from a live drumbeat; dancers sing and singers dance.

According to Apollo, the cultural umbrella organisation, a project this size is new. The committee includes people with little or no experience, supported by local professionals (a director, a conductor and a choreographer). Apollo hopes to deliver more major projects in future. The first reactions of dancers, singers and musicians on the widening of their cultural horizons have been entirely enthusiastic.
