Converging technologies such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive science introduce new opportunities, challenges and risks. This track of the SPT-conference focuses on converging technologies and risk. We would like to invite contributions on for example the following questions:
•What are the risks of converging technologies?
•Can we use concepts and methodologies from assessing risks of more conventional technologies and apply them to converging technologies?
•Can we use the same methodologies for the ethical appraisal of converging technologies that we use for conventional technologies?
•What are the ethical implications of risks associated with converging technologies?
•What could the role of the precautionary principle be in dealing with converging technologies?
•What role should the public play in assessing the acceptability of the risks of converging technologies?
•What role should emotions play in assessing the acceptability of the risks of converging technologies?
