Topfit Citizenlab

general summary

Citizenlab is a collaborative project aimed at strengthening the role of citizens in healthcare focusing on the Gelderland/Overijssel region. This region offers a unique combination of scientific knowledge and business environment in the field of medical technology, nutrition, and health. Multiple groups within the University of Twente, Saxion Hogeschool, ROC Twente, and multiple health organizations jointly develop and experiment with various forms of Citizen Science and user and citizen involvement in research and innovation projects in Healthcare.

STEPS CONTRIBUTION

STePS contributes to a number of pilot studies and the development of concepts and methods of Citizen Science. Ongoing work includes:

One pilot delves into the ways how people with diabetes use and experience various eHealth apps to get grips on their life with diabetes.

In a second pilot we work together with migrant elderly to develop and evaluate a tablet which assists them in their homes. The tablet might empower them to stay longer healthy at home with the help of apps such as medication and appointment reminders, and video calling.

A further pilot investigates the life of people who cope with loneliness, their needs, wishes, and desires for assistance, as well as the support and life of volunteers.

Another pilot investigates the use of eHealth apps and the role of lifestyles among ‘common’ citizens. Another step will be to consider the role such a Citizenlab can have for the regional health innovation ecosystem. The project is financed by regiodeal Twente.

Project duration: 2020 - 2022
