SURFdrive migration to Nextcloud – important points
SURFdrive is the cloud storage service used by many staff and students to securely store and share files. SURF will soon move to a new software environment: Nextcloud. This migration is necessary to keep the service scalable, secure, and reliable for the future.
The migration will take place from Friday, October 31 at 6:00 PM until Monday morning, November 3, 2025. During this period, SURFdrive will not be available.
Important to know:
- After the migration, the current SURFdrive/ownCloud desktop client will no longer work.
- Do not continue working in the local SURFdrive folder after the migration. Files will no longer be synchronized, which could result in data loss.
- Install the new Nextcloud Files desktop client from November 3 to resume synchronization: download link.
- If you do not use SURFdrive, no action is required. This announcement only applies to staff and students who use SURFdrive.
You can find more information and step-by-step instructions on the SURF wiki.
