My prior education consists of Psychology at the Free University (VU) in Amsterdam. At the VU I obtained a Master degree in Clinical Psychology in 2008 and a Master degree in Developmental Psychology in 2011.
Since 2011 I work as a lecturer / researcher at the school of nursing at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. Given my expertise in the field of psychology, the courses I teach are behavioral sciences, communication skills and mentorship.
In February 2015 I started as a PhD student at the department Psychology, Health & Technology at University of Twente. During my PhD trajectory, I will combine research at the University of Twente with teaching at Saxion.
Living Technology in health care: an ACT online based self-help program assisted by nurses to promote postoperative recovery.
Main aim of the research: to develop and evaluate an online intervention (self-help program), which will be assisted by nurses.
The self-help program will be based on principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This form of behavioral therapy teaches people not to suppress unpleasant emotions, sensations and thoughts, but to acknowledge and accept them. Acceptance of inevitable pain, gives someone the opportunity to engage in new initiatives based on personal values. We expect that following the program, will facilitate patients’ recovery after surgery and will increase their feeling of well-being.
This research is a collaboration with Saxion, dept. of thorax surgery of the hospital MST in Enschede and orthopedic centre OCON in Hengelo.
During the PhD trajectory supervision will be arranged by dr. Hester Trompetter (daily supervisor and copromotor), dr. Hilde de Vocht (copromotor from Saxion), prof. dr. Karlein Schreurs (first promotor) and Ernst Bohlmeijer (second promotor).
