In my PhD-project I investigated mental well-being and flourishing mental health in a representative population sample in The Netherlands. I also evaluated the efficacy of the multicomponent positive psychology intervention “This is your life”. An intervention aimed at promoting mental well-being and flourishing in the general population. After my Master’s degree of Clinical- and Health Psychology at the University of Utrecht, I have worked at the Trimbos Institute as a scientific researcher on different projects in mental health promotion. Examples of projects are the development of interventions to prevent problematic alcohol and drug use for people with a mild mental disability, monitoring activities and developments in preventive mental health care institutes in the Netherlands, and study the effectiveness of an online forum for the bereaved by suicide.
I currently work on several research projects and grant proposals, such as an experimental study about the acts of kindness-intervention and a self-compassion app for cancer patients. I also supervise PhD-students and master and bachelor students during their thesis. My areas of research interest are public mental health, positive psychology interventions, resilience, longitudinal studies, cost-effectiveness of early interventions, therapeutic behaviors in (online) coaching and counseling, stress and burn-out, depression and eating disorders.
