Maren Behrensen, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Twente, has just published a new article titled "Vibe Theology: Die extreme Rechte und ihr Technopapst" in the German magazine feinschwarz.
Summary:
The article is an analysis of Peter Thiel’s theological ramblings as vibe theology, in analogy to vibe coding and vibe physics – i.e., someone feels entitled to pontificate about things without having relevant expertise or experience. In the case of vibe coding and vibe physics, it’s ChatGPT that provides the illusion of expertise; in the case of Thiel, it’s his wealth, power, and (so Behrensen speculates) the sycophants around him.
