- victim-offender mediation
In 2016 I graduated cum laude for my master’s degree in Psychology (specialization Conflict, Risk & Safety). In my master thesis research I focused on online forms of communication in victim offender mediation. I examined (a) which needs among (imagined) victims predicted their willingness to participate in mediation and (b) compared the effects of an offender’s apology expressed through different forms of communication during mediation on victims.
During my PhD-project I will examine why and how participation in victim offender mediation reduces the risk of re-offending. It is a collaboration between the University of Twente and the University of Maastricht and is funded by the NOW Research Talent programme. The aim of this project is to test a theoretical model explicating the interplay between processes before, during and after mediation among offenders in Dutch Limburg and Hasselt and Tongeren in Belgium. This PhD-project is supervised by dr. Sven Zebel, (UT), Prof. dr. Hans Nelen (MU) and dr. Jacques Claessen (MU).
