Curriculum Vitae
Jacques Thomassen received his doctorate in the Social Sciences from the (then) Catholic University of Tilburg in 1976. He was appointed professor of political science at the University of Twente in 1977. He is a member and former General Secretary of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
He was a visiting scholar at the universities of Michigan, Harvard and Mannheim, the European University Institute and the Australian National University. He was twice a fellow in residence at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (NIAS). He had a leading position in several national and international research programs. He was a founding member and first chair of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES).
