Maike Schutte (1963) studied Cesar Exercise Therapy and had her own practice for 18 years. During that time she attended several (postgraduate) courses. In 2006 she made a career switch and started working in a daycare center for children with profound (intellectual) and multiple disabilities in the age of 0 to 18 year. Subsequently she worked as a social worker with multi-problem families in Deventer. During that time she studied nursing sciences at the university of Utrecht. In 2011, she completed her master thesis in which she studied the feasibility of a measurement for the development of play in pre-school children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Maike started to work as a PhD candidate in December 2015 at the department of Public Administration and the department of Health Technology and Services Research. The aim of her research is to strengthen the care for children in poverty, focused on their health and wellbeing. The project takes place in the setting of the Academic Workplace Youth Twente and is funded by ZonMW.
Maike is lecturing at the department of Social Work at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede and is supervising bachelor students.
