SUMMARY OF THE PHD PROJECT

My research forces three parts mainly. First, individual’s values attitudes and actions are related to environmental actions. Quantitative survey data is applied for explaining how people’s values predict environmental action and how political opportunity mobilizes people. In this part, researches are comparing with four western countries and China. Second, political culture and environmental participation. This part research attempts to observe how political culture in different countries shape decision-making in environmental participation by employing case study. Third, I would like to present a concrete distance between current level of participation and the participatory environmental governance that is practicing. Thus, I used qualitative contents analysis and network analysis for visualize the distance. Finally, I would like to summarize relevant recommendation for China in order to engage public into environmental decision-making.
