Ben Boksebeld (1960) studied Social Work and for 13 years worked as a social worker, specialising in debt settlement and debt counselling. From 1997 until 2001 he was a supervisor in a social work team. Since 1990 he has also been lecturing at the Social Work Department at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede, at first part time and since 2001 full time. Between 2006 and 2013 he also worked as a policy advisor for the Dean, representing Saxion in the National Educational Boards for Social Work and Social Educational Care. Since 2010, he has been coordinating the Department’s collaboration with Universities in Scandinavia. Consequently, he has delivered several guest lectures in Sweden and Finland.
In 2011, he obtained a Master’s degree (cum laude) in Psychology at the University of Twente. His thesis dealt with the experiences of patients with a severe mental illness seeking help in debt settlement agencies.
Ben started to work as a PhD Candidate at the Department of Public Administration in April 2013. His research will deal with the role of volunteers and informal carers in debt settlement and debt counseling and their influence on the effectiveness of and debt counseling.

Ben continues to teach at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Department of Social Work. His lectures will focus on subjects concerning students’ personal and professional development. Furthermore, he is a study advisor for students planning to study in Scandinavia and for visiting students from Scandinavia.
