GENERAL INFORMATION
Guus Meershoek is lecturer in Safety Governance at the department Management and Governance, University of Twente. He studied Political Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and wrote a dissertation on the Amsterdam police and the German occupation. He did research on organized crime and the fight against organized crime, on traffic policing, on undercover policing and on international police cooperation and participated in a project on the history of the Dutch police.
His main research interests are modern policing, safety governance and the history of the Dutch police. A special topic is the persecution and the destruction of the Dutch Jews during the German occupation.
Meershoek lectures in Public and private policing (master Public Administration) and in European Safety Policies (European Studies).
Apart from his position at the University of Twente, he is lector in Police History at the Dutch Police Academy.
He is member of De Politiekring and publishes regularly a column on http://www.nrc.nl/rechtenbestuur.
Meershoek is co-chair of the Criminal Justice History Network of the bi-annual European Social Science History Conference.
