Short Bio

Maria Hendriks is assistant professor in Professional Learning in Organizations at the department of Educational Sciences (OWK). After starting her career as a primary school teacher she studied Educational Science and Technology at the University of Twente. She graduated on the development of a quality assurance system for technical vocational education.

Since 1995, she works at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social sciences of the University of Twente. In close co-operation with Prof. Dr. Jaap Scheerens, she has been involved in a number of (inter)national research projects for the Dutch Ministry of Education, the European Union and the OECD’s INES project with a main focus on the quality of education, school self-evaluation, professional learning and school effectiveness. In 2014 she received a PhD on meta-analyses and review studies into the effects of school size, school leadership, time and evaluation on student outcomes.

Since 2008 she is also a lecturer and course director of the master Learning and Innovation at Saxion University of Applied Sciences.

As from May 2015 she is the academic director of TechYourFuture, a Centre of Expertise for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. TechYourFuture is a partnership of the University of Twente and Saxion and Windesheim Universities of Applied Sciences with the aim to motivate and inspire more children and students for STEM related studies and a technological career (www.techyourfuture.nl).
