Research interests

In organizations, carrying out knowledge work and solving complex problems is more and more being done by teams instead of individuals. I am interested in the learning processes of these teams, and how we can facilitate these processes in order to enable teams to come to solutions that could not be thought of by single individuals. Where organizations often turn to formal training for addressing learning and development of their employees, research has shown that spontaneous and informal learning can be even more effective. I would like to investigate how socially informal learning can be stimulated without formalizing it.

PhD project

In my PhD project I investigate university teachers’ team learning. The project takes place in the context of a large educational change process. Using a qualitative as well as a quantitative approach, we hope to answer questions such as: “How can we discern different team learning processes from team communication?” and “How is university teacher team learning related to their performance?” In order to answer these questions, we use innovative techniques such as support vector machine regression for analyzing team meeting data.
