In this MasterClass, professor Carla Millar will take you on a journey through aspects of international management, with links to successful knowledge intensive entrepreneurship and innovation, partly based on her earlier publications in both areas. Professor John Mahon of the University of Maine will be our guest.

From a 21st century perspective, in the changing and increasingly knowledge intensive and international VUCA arena, what are core drivers for achieving leadership in the fields of knowledge creation, sharing and exploitation which are crucial for success?

About the speakers

Carla MillarCarla C.J.M. Millar is a Fellow at Ashridge Business School, Emeritus Professor of International Marketing & Management at the University of Twente, Professor of Public Affairs, University of Chester and Professor, Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University. Carla was Unilever’s first female line manager and she is an active Ambassador for the advancement of women in academic careers.Her current international research focuses on the intangible aspects of leadership, ethics and innovation, transparency, multi-age driven organisational change, knowledge intensive industries, branding and reputation, comparative public affairs and governance. Carla Millar has published in e.g. JMS, BJM, JKM, MIR, JBE, JOCM, SIJ and JBIM and guest edited Special Issues of e.g. the Journal of Business Ethics, the International Journal of Advertising, the Journal of Organizational Change Management, the Journal of Managerial Psychology, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, the Journal of Public Affairs, the Journal of Knowledge Management and the Journal of Management Development.  She gained her BSc and MA at Tilburg University, her MPhil at IUEE of the University of Turin, and her PhD at City University, London.

John MahonJohn F. Mahon is the John M. Murphy Chair of International Business Policy and Strategy and Professor of Management at the Maine Business School, University of Maine. He was the founding director of the School of Policy and International Affairs at UM.Professor Mahon has taught in a variety of executive education programmes in university settings, and has served as an executive educator and/or consultant for a variety of Fortune 500 firms and firms in Asia, Australia and EuropeHe is the author/co-author of over 300 cases, papers and book chapters and has won 12 national awards for his research and writing during the period 2008 - 2010. His current research interests include knowledge transfer in high velocity/turbulent environments and the process and implications of knowledge corruption in organizations.He received his D.B.A. from Boston University, his M.B.A. (with honours) from Bryant College, and his B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
