EPICON: Epidemiology for Technology will take place on 25–26 June 2026 at the TechMed Centre, University of Twente in Enschede. Organised by the University of Twente (HTSR) and hosted by the Dutch Society for Epidemiology (VvE), EPICON (formerly WEON) brings together clinicians, researchers, policymakers, innovators and students to explore how epidemiology can drive technological innovation in healthcare. The Call for Abstracts is now open, and participants can also register to secure their place at the conference.
In a time of increasing pressure on healthcare systems, epidemiology plays a vital role in understanding trends, outcomes and effects, and in guiding the development and implementation of smarter, more effective technologies. EPICON focuses firmly on this intersection of epidemiology and technology, bridging research, innovation and clinical practice at both regional and national levels.
An abstract-driven programme
The scientific programme is built entirely on submitted abstracts for oral and poster presentations, ensuring a diverse and relevant programme across key themes such as prediction, implementation, AI, development or evaluation of methodology, education, drug research, remote monitoring, qualitative research & Mixed-methods research, and literature review. We particularly encourage submissions that explore how epidemiology can advance the development or application of healthcare technologies.
International and national keynote speakers, including Prof. Alex Friedrich (UKM), Prof. Sabine Siesling (University of Twente & IKNL) and Dr. Marjolein den Ouden (Saxion University of Applied Science & ROC van Twente), will share their perspectives on the future of epidemiology in relation to research, education, healthcare and technology. Masterclasses, guided tours of state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant social programme complete the conference experience.
