BMS: Where technology meets life @ CuriousU 2017

The CuriousU experience is a one-of-a-kind combination of a summer school and a festival. The summer school package includes: academic courses, music, sports, theatre, inspirational speakers. Like the previous year, the faculty BMS contributes again to the courses and activities of CuriousU. Many BMS employees are involved in the course programs. Therefore, we give you some excellent examples:

The Future of Health Technology

Annemieke Witteveen and Sofie Berghuis will teach students about the future of health technology. The goal of the course is to teach the visitors all about new health technologies and how they can develop those themselves. The focus is on technologies that are developed within the MIRA research institute for biomedical technology and technical medicine at the University of Twente, such as photoacoustic mammography (PAM) for breast cancer detection.

Smart Cities

‘Smart Cities’ is a rapidly growing concept in both research and policy practice. Dr Maya van den Berg conducts this course and her ambition is that at the end of this course more people know of the aspects of smart cities and that they can apply them to their own environment. Smart Cities is being studied through three themes. First, the course focuses on Resources and Infrastructure (water, energy and mobility). Second, the Digital City (Big and open data, geo informatics) is discussed. And third, the Social Innovation (new modes of governance and behavioral change) is analyzed more thoroughly.

Health and Happiness

Teuntje Elferink and Jochem Goldberg set up the course ‘health and happiness’. In this course they show how health, happiness and well-being are interrelated. Inspired by insights from health psychology, positive psychology, communication sciences, and eHealth, this course will help you address questions about what makes people happy and how technology can change unhealthy behavior.

Governance and Ethics of Technology

Technological innovation is a genuinely social process: people matter. The technologies of today have influence on our personality. Dr. Andreas Weber introduces students to the fields of governance and innovation studies and ethics of new technologies and uses examples to show what kind of a technological innovation the social process is.

Finance bootcamp for Smart Businesses

How to make smart investment decisions that create value? This question and many more are answered by Rez Kabir during the CuriousU summer school. In our modern world, good knowledge of financial management can make a difference. Lack of financial management knowledge cannot be a hinder to smartly manage investments & financing, earn profit and realize business targets.

EntrepreneurialU

Joost Brinkman and Annemarie Ridder give CuriousU participants the chance to find out whether a career as an entrepreneur is something for them. Further they also discuss which business ideas are viable. This course is not only for aspiring entrepreneurs, but for every single one of us!
