Ton de Jong appointed Member of the Academia Europaea

Prof. Ton de Jong, professor Instruction Technology at UT, has been appointed as Member of the Academia Europaea: a select council of European scientists with several Nobel Prize winners.

The Academia Europaea is a European, non-governmental association acting as an Academy. Its members are scientists and scholars who collectively aim to promote learning, education and research. Founded in 1988, with about 3000 members which includes leading experts from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law. Its goal is to stimulate excellent science in Europe; their members also advice governments.

Ton de Jong is very happy about his appointment: “It shows that the work of our research group, where we perform fundamental research on learning processes, together with the development of innovative ICT-solutions, is highly appreciated. A good example is the European FP7 Go-Lab project, in which he collaborates with European partners in virtual laboratories, that are used in education. This not only concerns the building of the labs, but also the learning processes. “This project will still run for two years. I hope that at that time we have quite a lot of labs running, that will be used in education”.
