TEACHER/SUPERVISOR: Hannie Gijlers & Chandan Dasgupta
TOPIC
We are investigating how students in higher education reason about complex socio-scientific issues, using the green energy transition as our case study. Students complete a card-sorting activity in an online learning environment in which they prioritize and justify competing considerations related to sustainable energy. The activity is designed as an assessment tool that provides insights into students' reasoning, decision-making, and views about knowledge and evidence.
ASSIGNMENT
Your main task is helping us execute the experiment and collect data. This means recruiting students from universities and universities of applied sciences, explaining the study, and supervising their participation in the online card-sorting activity. After participants complete the activity and questionnaire, you'll help retrieve and organize the data from the system. Once sufficient data have been collected, you'll support the first stages of qualitative analysis, including organizing responses, preparing data for coding, and exploring patterns in students' reasoning using software such as Atlas.ti under supervision.
The research team will introduce you to the study, show you how to retrieve and manage the data, and guide you through the first stages of data analysis. You will be part of an ongoing research project focused on students' reasoning about the green energy transition
