Marieke Weernink graduated as Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences in 2011 with the thesis: Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy and early childhood; a risk factor for skull deformation?
Between her Bachelor and Master Marieke wanted to get a more practical experience in health care. She did an internship at Livio, a care and service organization in the east of the Netherlands, she assisted with the implementation of a new care model in a residential care home. After the implementation she evaluated the care model on resident satisfaction & quality of care.
In 2012 she graduated from the master Health Sciences with the thesis: A model to incorporate end-user perspectives in the design and development process of medical devices. This was illustrated by a case study in the field of medical device development.
After her graduation, she started her PhD at the department of Health Technology and Services Research at the University of Twente.
Marieke’s research will mainly focus on the integration of patient perspectives in the evaluation of health care innovations and services. Health care decision makers and the public have expressed a strong desire for the patient to participate in decision making on the policy and clinical level. In the last two decades many instruments are designed for including patient preferences in health technology assessments (HTA). But there are still some problems with particular areas in HTA regarding patient preferences. Marieke shall assess the use of a relative new preference elicitation tool called best-worst scaling.
