General info

Jorrit van Mierlo started his PhD research at the department of Human Resource Management of the University of Twente in September 2014. His research is about employee-driven innovation and HRM processes, granted by NWO. The project “Innovative HRM for employee-driven innovation” is supervised by Prof. dr. Tanya Bondarouk, Dr. Jeroen Meijerink and Dr. Anna Bos-Nehles.

He obtained his Master’s degree of sociology – focussed on labour and organizational processes – at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. For his Master’s thesis he investigated the effect the design of a growing organization has on its innovation capabilities, thereby using Henry Mintzberg’s theory. One of his findings stresses the importance of adapting the organization’s key elements to the environment when designing or reorganizing the organization, thereby supporting contingency theorists.

Jorrit also worked as an intern at Verwey-Jonker Institute, where he worked on a project aiming to improve the conditions of day-care facilities of The Hague. The results were printed in a book which can be found here. Furthermore he has extensive experience abroad, spending time and working in Mexico City for a couple of years.
