I am Eduard Fosch-Villaronga and I come from Barcelona. I’m very excited to join the University of Twente, especially the Law, Governance and Technology Department where I will be working under the project "Exploring RegTech-modes in responsible development & use of robotics". The project aims at exploring dynamic pathways to achieve responsible development and use of robotics. The idea is to promote the development of new emerging robotic technologies without overlooking the legal dimension linked to them.
I have just finished the Joint International Doctoral Degree in Law, Science and Technology Erasmus Mundus Programme coordinated by the university of Bologna (Italy). My thesis was about the “Legal and Ethical Framework for Personal Care Robots”. In that research I applied the risk-based methodologies used already in the legal domain for privacy and surveillance matters (Privacy and Surveillance Impact Assessments) to robotic technologies. The creation of a Care Robot Impact Assessment gave me the possibility to identify impacts and issues concerning this precise type of technology often overlooked by regulators (that has lately focused on autonomous driving and unmanned aerial vehicles).
The mobility plan of my programme included, for a period of 6 months, the following universities: - Università di Bologna (Italy) Università di Torino (Italy); Mykolo Romerio Universitetas, Vilniuje (Lithuania).; CELLS, Leibniz Universität, Hannover (Germany); Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Catalonia); and University of Pittsburgh (United States). At the same time I have been invited for the CEEO of Tufts University, in MA, United States to work on a project on robotic therapy for children with autism; and to the Laboratoire de Systèmes Robotiques (LSRO), École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
I am fluent in Catalan, Spanish, Italian, French and English; and I have intermediate level of German. So please, if you are native in any of these languages, I would love to talk to you in your mother tongue. Interested in learning Dutch and Chinese, I also have a passion for cuisine and arts.
