Short biography

Frans was involved in several international research projects funded by the European Commission, studying reforms in higher education, and the building of a classification of European higher education institutions (U-Map). He is currently working on the implementation of a multi-dimensional ranking of universities worldwide (U-Multirank). In 2011 he was seconded to the Dutch Inspectorate for Higher Education to develop a risk detection model on study success in higher education programs. Since 2012 he is part of the secretariat that supports the Review Committee – an independent body that monitors the outcome of the performance contracts agreed with individual higher education institutions in the Netherlands. These contracts cover aspects such as student success, drop-out, programme diversification and research concentration.

A hidden research interest lies in the use of simulations to learn more about the system level effects of individual students choice behavior.
